College Board AP Course and Exam Info
Why do so many of students take Advanced Placement courses?
AP courses, sponsored by The College Board, allow students to pursue college-level studies in high school for college credit. These courses allow students to challenge themselves at the college level within the high school setting, thus permitting them to sharpen their academic skills and build confidence before going to college. Success in AP coursework represents an important savings in time and money for students entering college if they score 3 or higher on the exam. Research shows that even students who score below 3 on an AP Exam are also more likely to graduate college on time.
AP credits may reduce the cost of tuition, or may allow students to pursue a second or third major. Most universities grant not only college credit, but also advanced standing, to students entering with AP credit. This means a student may receive sophomore standing during their freshman year, allowing them to sign up for classes earlier than their age-range peers, facilitating an on-target graduation date.
AP courses on a transcript demonstrates a student's willingness to take on the most challenging courses available to them. For highly selective universities, AP coursework on transcripts is the norm for entering freshmen. Students entering a college with AP courses are often exempted from taking introductory courses and permitted to take higher-level courses. These are some reasons why many Cedarburg students elect to take rigorous AP college level coursework during high school.

Which Colleges and Universities Accept AP Credit?
Nearly all U.S. colleges and universities (and many international institutions) honor AP scores. Most have a written policy spelling out how they award credit and advanced placement. AP credit policy information for most colleges can be found here.
